Reserve a court by showing up in person 15 minutes before the top of the hour, 9am-9pm on weekdays, 9am-5pm on Saturdays. Sunday is all walk-on, all day, with people waiting patiently and players respecting the one-set or one-hour limit when keeping score and the half-hour limit for hitting without keeping score. Sorry all you folks who just like to hit, but according to the guy at the desk who I just talked to and who read them to me, those are the rules at Penmar when people are waiting.

The courts were 5/6 full at 10 am on a brilliantly weekday in early May. I’m sure it will get busy here once word gets out that the courts are open and nice and are distinguished by jumbo numbers.

Notwithstanding several lived-in-looking cars in the parking lot and many RVs parked around the perimeter of the park, I got the sense that people were quietly minding their own business. The environs felt pleasant and welcoming.
