Washington Park, Pasadena

These two lighted courts have lots of character. A handsome stone wall. Beautiful landscaping featuring Canary Island pines. And what a friendly passerby recommended as a new friend recommended these courts for their “downstairs type feel.”

Pitfalls here include actual pits, no net straps, and that handsome stone wall being about two yards from the court. This would be a good place to practice understanding that some things you just have to let go, such as a sharply angled ball heading towards that wall.

One more thing: the east court is festooned with multiple chalk lines in a variety of festive colors. It is very challenging to make a proper call on serves. What I always do is, if it’s close, call it in. Except when I don’t.
