Two imperfect-but-fun lighted courts. The nets are a few inches too high, despite some good citizen’s efforts to lower one of them with a bungee cord. Points for trying! Harder to DIY engineer is the warp of the courts, which are noticeably woozy on the north side. Finally, the fence on the east side is radically close to the net, presenting a not-very-sporting but hard-to-resist temptation to hit wide and run your opponent into the fence. On the plus side, the imperfections of the court make it easy to forgive the imperfections of your game. Should any arise. They always do for me. Further consolation: the courts are next to a row of handsome oak trees.

I played here with my tennis friend Timothy Sellers, a ferociously funny and vice versa player. We had a swell time with my brand-newest tennis bestie, Malochi, who earned that coveted status by playing zestfully and strategically. At the same time, the three of us simultaneously parsed the lyrics to "Visions of Johanna."
This, to me, was tennis heaven. Instead of wings, I got this groovy "Jolly Roger Federer" T-shirt from Timothy's new collection.
