Two lighted, recently resurfaced courts in a fascinating park. The courts are separate from each other on the east and west end, so you get a private feel if you’re lucky enough to get on. Luck is timing plus preparation, so prepare to visit here around noon on a weekday.
If you have to wait, you couldn’t pick a nicer spot. I wrote about Douglas Park in my LA Times story about the best parks in LA to loaf around and chill out. You can tree-gaze, watch ducklings, meditate upon burbling brooks, or do my favorite activity of all besides playing tennis: do nothing.
Fun fact: Douglas Park was the site of the photo shoot for a story in The Argonaut about my quest to play tennis on every public court in LA.
